Missouri governor appoints appeals court judge to the state Supreme Court

By JIM SALTER

Republican Missouri Gov. Mike Parson has appointed Kelly C. Broniec to the Missouri Supreme Court. The appointment was announced Tuesday. Broniec is current chief judge of the state appeals court based in St. Louis. She will replace George W. Draper III, a Democratic appointee who is retiring. Parson appointed Broniec to the state appeals court in 2020. Parson chose Broniec from three finalists selected by a state judicial committee. The Missouri system is set up to take the politics out of the process. Parson will have another opportunity to appointment someone soon. Another state Supreme Court judge is retiring effective in mid-October.
