KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — A Missouri law banning local police from enforcing federal gun laws is still in effect as a lawsuit to overturn it is appealed. U.S. District Judge Brian Wimes ruled the law will stay in effect until an appeals court gets a chance to review it. The law forbids local police from enforcing federal gun laws that don’t have an equivalent state law. The U.S. Justice Department sued. The federal agency says the law wreaked havoc with crime-fighting partnerships with Missouri law enforcement. Wimes ruled the law unconstitutional this week. Missouri’s Republican Attorney General Andrew Bailey is appealing.
