JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Missouri public school teachers would be required to tell parents if question their gender identity under a bill advancing in the state Senate. A Senate committee on Tuesday passed the measure. The bill originally would have banned teachers from talking about being gay or discussing LGBTQ issues with students, with some exceptions. That provision was stripped from the bill in committee. Teachers would be required to tell parents if students question their gender identity or ask to go by different pronouns. Teachers and other school staff would need to contact parents within a day.
