KMIZ

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Police say they have opened a homicide investigation after two people died following an early-morning fire in Kansas City’s Midtown neighborhood. Authorities responded about 5 a.m. Saturday to a report of a structure fire and discovered two people inside an apartment after firefighters extinguished the blaze. Kansas City Police Officer Donna Drake says both people were “suffering from apparent trauma” when firefighters found them. They were both declared dead at the scene. The Kansas City Star reports that the killings mark the 125th and 126th homicides in the city this year.
