Man accused of assaulting woman just after hospital release

KMIZ

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A man has been arraigned on assault charges for allegedly smashing a woman in the head with a basketball-sized boulder in Portland, Oregon, just after he was released from an emergency center for people experiencing mental health crises. The Oregonian/OregonLive reports 40-year-old Dwayne Simpson, of Missouri, on Wednesday was ordered held without bail until another hearing later this week in Multnomah County Circuit Court. Court documents say Simpson is accused of striking the woman and causing her head to hit a concrete barrier as she fell to the ground. She was taken to a hospital. It wasn’t immediately known if Simpson has a lawyer to comment on the case.
