Man sentenced to life in 80-year-old woman’s stabbing death

KMIZ

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) — A 22-year-old Republic man who was 16 when he stabbed an elderly woman to death as she was trying to help him has been sentenced to life in prison. Trystan Westrip was sentenced Thursday after he pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the October 2016 death of 80-year-old Mary Shisler near Strafford. Prosecutors say Westrip had run away from home when he stopped at Shisler’s home to steal her truck. The statement said Shisler offered to help Westrip before she was killed. He stabbed her several times and left her body in a field, and then stole items from her home and tried to set it on fire.
