Man dies after shootout with St. Louis police officers

KMIZ

ST. LOUIS (AP) — St. Louis police say a man has died after a shootout with officers. Police said officers went Friday morning to an apartment complex just north of Forest Park after reports of shots being fired. Police Chief John Hayden said in a news conference that when officers entered an apartment where they believed the shots originated, they encountered an armed man. Hayden says the man refused to drop his weapon and exchanged gunfire with the officers before police backed out of the apartment. The man was later found dead in the apartment. No officers were injured. Police did not say whether the man died from gunshots fired by officers. They said a medical examiner would determine his cause of death.
