Springfield police say they shot an armed hostage-taker

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) — Authorities say police shot an armed man after he broke into a Springfield home and held people hostage. The Springfield News-Leader reports that the man was taken to the hospital and police have not yet commented on his condition. No one else is believed to have been seriously injured. Lt. Dustin Martin with the Springfield Police Department said it all started Sunday afternoon when the man fled from an officer, fired shots and then broke into the home. Martin police surrounded the home and tried to negotiate with the man before shooting him. Police have not yet released the names of those involved.
