Man found guilty in Joplin woman’s death, shooting of wife
JOPLIN, Mo. (AP) — A Joplin man has been convicted of killing a woman and shooting his estranged wife six years ago. A Jasper County jury on Thursday found 60-year-old Stephen Thompson guilty of first-degree murder and three other counts. Prosecutors said Thompson killed Carissa Gerard and wounded Kristina Thompson as the women tried to escape from him at their home in Joplin. The shootings came after Kristina Thompson broke up with her husband and moved into a home with Gerard. Thompson was also convicted of first-degree domestic assault and two counts of armed criminal action. His sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 29.
