Kansas Highway Patrol says man killed in head-on crash

KMIZ

HAYS, Kan. (AP) — The Kansas Highway Patrol says a man from central Kansas has died in a head-on crash near Hays. The patrol said the crash happened around 10:15 a.m. Sunday on U.S. 183 south of Hays, killing 56-year-old James Kohl, of Schoenchen. Investigators say Kohl was driving a car northbound on the highway when a southbound pickup truck entered his lane while trying to pass a vehicle. Officials say Kohl died at the scene. The driver of the truck — a 20-year-old man from Kansas City, Missouri — suffered serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.
