JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Illegal telemarketing calls and no-call violations was the number one complaint the Missouri Attorney General's Office received in 2020.

In 2020, 34,527 Missourians reported a no-call complaint to the office. Those complaints involved phone calls to Missouri residents by businesses or organizations soliciting the purchase of goods or services.

Here are some of the other top complaints for 2020:

  • Solicitations/Publications/Subscriptions: 1,848
  • Financial: 1,646
  • Retail/Wholesale: 1,625
  • Automotive: 1,490
  • Price Gouging: 1,326
  • Communications/Technology/Online Services: 1,256
  • Real Estate and Construction: 1,221
  • Travel/Timeshares: 1,184
  • Health: 882

For the first time, price gouging made the top 10 list. The Attorney General's office says most of the complaints happened during the initial stages of the pandemic. Complaints ranged from face masks, gloves, toiletries, food and other items.

If someone wants to file a complaint, you can go on the Attorney General's office or call the hotline at 800-392-8222.
