ASHLAND, Mo. (KMIZ)

A box truck that was hauling items for the U.S. Postal Service crashed near Ashland on Wednesday after the driver suffered a medical emergency, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The truck went off the Route H on-ramp from Highway 63, between Ashland and Columbia Regional Airport. The medical emergency, which troopers didn't specify, was the cause of death, not the crash, said MSHP Sgt. Gentry Pemberton.

Pemberton said authorities had yet to notify the victim's next of kin early Wednesday afternoon.

A tow truck was on the scene to move the box truck.
