Tracking morning rain chances and afternoon heat

TODAY: Monday is another ABC17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day with more heat and humidity on tap to kick off the week. One feature that may limit this heat is a rogue shower and storm chance early this morning. Guidance is not modeling them well, but showers and storms are entering the region early this morning and could stick around through the morning. We should expect rain chances through at least noon, but rain may linger into the afternoon. Locally heavy rain is possible this morning, but activity will become more sparse on radar by midday, offering drier conditions with time. Temperatures may be cooled by rain and clouds, especially north of I-70. However, we should expect dangerous heat to be the default with temperatures ranging from low-to-upper 90s, with heat indexes in the 105-110 degree range. Winds today are generally from the southwest up to 10-15 mph at times.

TONIGHT: Skies clear this evening, but south winds remain, keeping lows in the upper 70s.

EXTENDED: Monday's rain chance and more rain chances ahead will be thanks in part to our proximity to a stalled front just north of mid-Missouri. This will lift north as a warm front Monday through Tuesday, which should leave us dry on Tuesday and slightly warmer. We will be tracking upper level waves that may nudge the boundary back south again later this week. Rain chances grow Wednesday into Thursday, before falling as it lifts north into the weekend. We'll have low rain chances each day through this period, with our best chance on Thursday. Each day, the best chance for rain will be closest to the front, in the north. We may not get much rain at all this week, south of Highway 50. Heat will be likely through Wednesday, but a break may be possible Thursday into the weekend.
