Jefferson City man charged after high-speed chase across two counties

COLE COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Cole County Prosecutor's Office filed charges Friday against a Jefferson City man arrested following a high-speed chase that spanned two counties.

Donraye Roper, 20, faces one count of aggravated fleeing a stop or detention. No court hearing has been scheduled as of Friday night.

According to the probable cause statement, on Feb. 12 just after noon, a state trooper in Cole County spotted an SUV on Highway 54 near Gray Road. That SUV had reportedly fled troopers on Highway 54 earlier in the day.

At the time, the SUV had no front license plate, and the rear plate was registered to a different make and model. When the trooper tried to stop the SUV, the SUV's driver kept going at a high rate of speed. The probable cause statement said the suspect vehicle reached speeds higher than 120 miles per hour on the highway.

Other troopers deployed spikes on the highway at Cassiady Road, which piped two of the SUV's tires, but the pursuit continued at speeds nearly double the posted limit. The SUV finally stopped near Highway CC, and the SUV's driver, identified as Roper, was taken into custody.

The probable cause statement said at one point during the chase, Roper tossed a handgun from the vehicle. A trooper later found the gun and submitted it for testing in the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network.
