One shot at central Columbia apartment building Saturday night, person of interest in custody

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

One person was shot at a central Columbia apartment building late Saturday night, according to Columbia Police Department Lt. Anthony Bowne.

Bowne said police were called to the 700 block of North Garth Avenue near the Oak Towers Affordable Senior Living apartment building around 9:20 p.m. for a report of shots fired. Bowne said police found a male with gunshot wounds. The victim was taken to a local hospital. Their injuries are considered life-threatening, Bowne said.

A person of interest is in custody, according to Bowne.

Police asked people to avoid the area as they continue their investigation.

An ABC 17 News reporter on seen saw several CPD vehicles in the area and an ambulance leave the scene with their sirens on.
