Weather Alert Day: Dangerously cold temperatures and slick roads this morning

Dangerous cold has set in this morning, with wind chills as cold as -20° to -30°. This makes travel extra dangerous this morning, with frostbite setting in with as little as 30 minutes of exposure. This is as snow remains on roadways across the region after inches fell over the weekend. Below are the totals reported across mid-Missouri.
A cold weather advisory remains in effect in the north and west, while an Extreme cold warning is in place where the heaviest snow has fallen in the last 24 hours. Monday is the coldest start yet, with the entire region at risk of -20° windchills, but localized heavier snowfall in some spots could push temperatures lower in some locations. This means localized areas of -25° wind chills are possible in the Extreme Cold Warning. This kind of cold can be deadly if stuck outside for prolonged periods of time.

It's been cold all weekend. Wind chills will be coldest on Sunday night into Monday morning with readings between -15 and -25.
HAZARDS/IMPACTS:
Frozen pipes, car trouble, and frostbite are possible with prolonged exposure tonight. Snowpack will extend the cold through Monday. This will also make it difficult for salt to do its job on the roadways. Snow will continue to cover many roads. Please use caution and understand that being stranded in this kind of cold can be deadly. Extra blankets and a full fuel tank can keep you warm in a situation where you find yourself stuck on the side of the road.
