Tracking severe threat this evening ahead of quiet work week

TODAY: Monday is an ABC17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day, as a chance for all types of severe weather will come from a system that peaks storm chances Monday evening. We will start with showers and likely non-severe thunderstorms before rain exits to the north and east. We expect a general lull through midday. How long and dry this lull is will help determine the extent of our severe threat this afternoon and evening. More sun and dry time will better recharge our atmosphere before storms kick off to our southwest in Kansas and Oklahoma. Storms will initiate in the southern plains shortly afternoon before spreading our way for the late afternoon to the early evening, or the dinner hour. Storms will be capable of hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes. For more information read our ABC17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day Blog. Expect high temperatures near 80 on Monday.

TONIGHT: Storms will be most intense during the daylight hours, then gradually weaken as they spread across the region and to the east overnight. We'll have a threat for severe weather all night until they leave. Our severe threat should wane quickly after midnight, leaving us with showers through sunrise.

EXTENDED: Rain coverage will be generally spotty on Tuesday. Some showers and weak storms are possible well behind the cold front as we see wrap around moisture fill in the back side of this system. Severe weather looks to shift east of us on Tuesday, but we'll watch storms in the east near Montgomery City for some limited potential for hail and wind. Highs are much cooler, in the 70s with plenty of dry time on Tuesday. Wednesday and Thursday are looking partly cloudy with highs in the 60s. Friday's highs may reach 70, but we can attribute that to more sunshine. Our next chance at 70s comes over the weekend with chances for rain Saturday and Sunday.
