No. 1 Texas no-hits Mizzou to take a win in the series opener
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
After a delayed start to the series due to inclement weather in Columbia, Texas stormed into town and showed everybody why they are the No. 1 team in the land. The Longhorns run-ruled the Tigers 8-0 in five innings to take the series opener, on Saturday.
With the loss, Mizzou dropped to 20-19 overall and 2-8 in Southeastern Conference play this season.
The victory came courtesy of a tremendous day at the plate for the Longhorns, but also on the back of a no-hit effort from pitcher Teagan Kavan. The sophomore didn't allow a single hit in five innings and struck out 11 MU batters.
On the flip side, head coach Larissa Anderson's pitching staff struggled in the circle. Sophomore ace Marissa McCann allowed four runs in the first inning off of a bases loaded sacrifice fly and a three-run home run. She ended the day throwing for 4.0 innings and allowing a total of six earned runs on nine hits.
Sophomore Nathalie Touchet came in in relief for McCann for one inning. The Texas-native allowed two more earned runs on three hits in her outing, which led to the run-rule ending.
Mizzou did get two runners on base, courtesy of a couple errors from Texas, but could never capitalize.
Up next - the Tigers will close out the series against the No. 1 Longhorns in doubleheader fashion, on Sunday. First pitch in game one is set for 12 p.m., followed by game two at 3 p.m.
