St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans brings out thousands to French Quarter for Super Bowl 59 light show

The week leading up to Super Bowl 59 in New Orleans, the St. Louis Cathedral is bringing out thousands to the French Quarter for a mesmerizing light show. The program is bringing out football fans and locals alike.

The historic structure in Jackson Square was built in the mid-1800's and features artwork projections by local artists. According to Heart of Louisiana, the displays are created by thirteen laser projections.

New Orleans local Caroline Hewitt said she's grown up in the city and has never seen anything like this before.
"I saw some pictures and I thought they were fake, so I had to come see for myself," said Hewitt. "It's a very unique city and I think it's awesome that people are coming out to experience the culture."
Many people snapped photos and videos in the area during the light show, which takes place every half hour starting at 6:30 p.m.

New Orleans local Brooke Cutura said she feels like she's at Disney World watching the all of the lights.
"Absolutely amazing," Cutura said. "The most beautiful thing I've ever seen."

According to the cathedral's website, the historic structure has been visited by a pope, generals, presidents, kings, and prime ministers throughout history.
The shows will run through Super Bowl Sunday at 11 p.m.
