Two cats die in Saturday morning Columbia apartment fire, fire ruled accidental

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Two cats were killed in a fire Saturday morning at an apartment complex in northeast Columbia, according to a Columbia Fire Department spokeswoman.

CFD spokeswoman Katherine Rodriguez says crews responded to a structure fire in the 5000 block of Clark Lane at The Links apartment complex at 11:52 a.m. Crews found smoke coming from one of the units, Rodriguez said.

Firefighters were able to put the fire out and limit the damage to the kitchen.

Fire marshals determined the fire was an accident, started from contents on the stove in the apartment igniting due to the stove being left on, Rodriguez said.

Two cats died, but there were no other reports of injuries.
