Tracking spring like warmth ahead of dangerous cold next week
TODAY: Thursday will be another day with warmer temperatures. We'll push the envelope today, with a high near 40. This means more melting is on the way after morning where some of us still haven't dropped below freezing!
TONIGHT: Overnight, we'll have another mild night, but some will still fall below freezing, so watch out for black ice.
EXTENDED: Friday will be the warmest we've been since the end of December, with a high expected near 50, thanks in large part to south wind, and favorable support aloft. We'll have winds from the southwest at a rate of 10-20 mph sustained, gusting into the 20s during the afternoon. This will come ahead of a cold front that will bring clouds through the afternoon, and a chance at rain during the evening and overnight. Very little rain is forecast; less than a tenth of an inch. Cold air will rush in behind this system. Most of the rain will be gone by Saturday morning, so the odds of enough moisture sticking around to create flurries is increasingly low. We'll have cold settling in Saturday, keeping highs in the 20s. Sunday through Tuesday have been designated ABC17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Days as prolonged cold will be dangerous. We expect lows near 0, and highs in the teens from Sunday through Tuesday.
