Weather Alert Day: Snowfall comes to an end this afternoon after several inches fall across mid-Missouri
Friday Update:
The last update, as of Friday at midday, shows snow on its way out of Columbia and mid-Missouri. Totals have broadly reached 2-4 inches across much of the region so far today, and are expected to climb slightly before snow ends in the east.
Totals were impressive thanks to an efficient 20:1 snow to liquid ratio, and efficient snow rates at times. This left us making a lot out of what moisture the atmosphere had in it.
BLOG:
Low pressure to our south will send precipitation across the Mid-South for the end of the week into the weekend, and we'll be on the northern extent of that system. With frigid temperatures that have been in place the last several days, any snow that accumulates will stick to frozen roads and could create slick conditions.
Snow showers will likely start to the southwest after sunset tonight, spreading northeast overnight into Friday morning.
Southern and southeast Missouri will see the most snowfall, while points north of I-70 will see less with this system.
Areas along and north of I-70 could see a dusting to 2", while locations in between Highway 50 and I-70 will see 1-3". If you're near the Lake of the Ozarks or I-44, those totals could range between 2-4".
Travel will likely be impacted through early afternoon Friday, but temperatures will be near 30 degrees, making salt treatment and snow removal a bit easier than the last several days.
