Mizzou escapes Jacksonville State 83-72, late run extends win streak to 10 games

It took a while to get going, but a late run helped the Tigers secure their 10th win in a row.
Things looked tight in the second half, but Missouri was able to come away with an 83-72 victory over the Jacksonville State Gamecocks on Tuesday night at Mizzou Arena.
Missouri (10-1) held a 41-40 advantage at halftime. Both sides traded baskets until the Tigers finally put together a run in the final six minutes.
Jacksonville State (6-5) held at 68-67 lead with 5 minutes, 59 seconds to go. The Tigers went on a 13-0 run over the next three minutes, capped off by a 3-pointer from senior guard Jacob Crews with 2:39 remaining.
During that stretch, Crews knocked down three shots from beyond the arc and junior guard Mark Mitchell provided a pair of assists, two free throws and a layup.
Crews paced Missouri with a game-high 19 points as the Tigers shot 50% (28-of-56) from the field. Mitchell tallied 18 points, sophomore guard Trent Pierce totaled 12 and sophomore guard Anthony Robinson put up 11.
Senior guard Jaron Pierre Jr. led Jacksonville State with 18 points, while junior guard Jamar Franklin scored 15, senior forward Jao Ituka put up 13 and senior guard Michael Houge came up with 12. The Gamecocks went 45% (27-of-60) from the field.
The Gamecocks took a 39-28 advantage on the boards.
The Tigers will face the Illinois Fighting Illini (7-3) at noon Sunday at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis.
