Police in Missouri shoot a suspect who opened fire on officers after a crash

CRYSTAL CITY, Mo. (AP) — Police in Missouri shot and wounded a suspect who authorities say opened fire after crashing his vehicle. Inside the vehicle, investigators found the body of a female who they say was dead before the shooting. The shooting occurred after the suspect crashed a pickup as Festus and Crystal City police attempted to stop the vehicle following a report of shots fired near a restaurant. After crashing, the suspect exited the vehicle, wearing body armor, and opened fire, police said. Two Crystal City police officers returned fire, wounding the suspect, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to a hospital. The shooting and death are under investigation.
