COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The North Callaway R-1 School District has accepted a bid to build a new elementary school and additions to the early childhood Thunderbird Learning Center, according to a Friday press release from the school district.

The school district accepted the bid from Coil Construction. The project is being funded with the increased tax rate and bond issue that was overwhelmingly approved by voters during the April 2 election. It is scheduled to be completed by May 2026, the release says.

The release says that the construction of the new school and expanding the Learning Center will create new programs, including fifth grade band. It will also include consolidated support service like speech therapy, physical therapy, counseling and behavioral services, the release says.

The release claims that the new building will reduce operational costs, which could lead to better salaries for teacher.
