One arrested for DWI following crash involving police vehicle in north Columbia

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A man was arrested after allegedly hitting a Columbia Police Department vehicle Friday night.

According to a release from CPD, police responded to a crash involving an on-duty police vehicle and another vehicle in the 2300 block of Oakland Gravel Road around 11:30 p.m.

Gabriel Antonio Garcia-Vasquez, 44, of Columbia was arrested for driving while intoxicated and not having an operator’s license.

The officer was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries, the release states.

An ABC 17 News reporter at the scene saw a white car that had apparent damage on its front and driver side. A CPD vehicle was also seen with damage near its driver side headlight and wheel and an airbag was deployed on its passenger side.

The investigation is on-going.
