Three people shot in Downtown Columbia early Sunday morning

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Three people were shot in Downtown Columbia early Sunday morning, according to Columbia Police spokeswoman Jenny Hopper.

According to Hopper, officers responded to the 900 block of Easy Broadway around 2:45 a.m. for reports of shots fired. When officers arrived at the scene, they found two victims who had been shot.

No suspect information was provided. According to Hopper, there is still an active threat to the public, however, businesses and people in the Downtown area should be safe on Sunday.

"I know that sounds a little contradictory, but I would say it's safe to resume business as normal when businesses open up," Hopper said.

According to a release from the department, a man and woman were found on scene with gunshot wounds and taken to a hospital for treatment. Police later learned of a third man who had been shot and arrived at a local hospital.

CPD Sgt. Neal Sedgwick told ABC 17 News at the scene that the two people were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. One additional victim took a private vehicle to the hospital in an unknown condition, according to Sedgwick.

All three victims are stable, the release states.

ABC 17 News at the scene saw crime scene tape blocked off Broadway and 10th St. down to 9th St. Officers were seen investigating parked cars nearby and placed around four evidence markers on the ground of the taped-off area. About 10 more evidence markers were seen in front of the Winging Out restaurant located in the 900 block of E. Broadway.

ABC 17 News saw around 10 Columbia police cruisers and a Boone Health ambulance.

Crime scene tape was taken down around 4:40 a.m.
