Two Georgia men arrested for allegedly coercing a person to cash fraudulent checks

ASHLAND, Mo. (KMIZ)

Ashland police arrested two Georgia men on Friday for allegedly coercing a person to cash fraudulent checks at numerous places.

Jawon Adams, 25 and D'Andre Smith, 32, both of Fairburn Georgia were arrested and booked into the Boone County Jail on charges of second-degree kidnapping, forgery, possession of a forging instrument, and passing a bad check.

Both men are being held without bond.

According to a social media post from the Ashland Police Department, around 10:30 a.m. on Sept. 13, police responded to a local bank for a person attempting to cash a fraudulent check.

Police determined a homeless individual was coerced into attempting to cash bad checks at multiple locations in Jefferson City and Ashland, the post states. The person was able to provide suspect information, which then allowed police to identify the vehicle with help from the Boone County Sherriff's Office.

According to the post, around 4:15 p.m. an Ashland officer saw the alleged vehicle at a gas station.

The vehicle was able to avoid the officer, but was seen by another Ashland officer and was ultimately stopped at the dead end of Nevin Ct. where officers arrested Adams and Smith.

Officers found cash, blank checks, a computer, printer, and numerous cell phones after searching the vehicle, the post states.
