Mizzou’s Schweizer finishes in top-10 of 5,000-meter Olympic final

Mizzou legend Karissa Schweizer finished in 10th place in the 5,000-meter final at the Paris Olympics, on Monday. She had the best finish out of the two other Americans who competed in the medal race.

There was a little bit of controversy after the race. Initially, Kenya's Faith Kipyegon was disqualified after some shoving during the race, which pushed Schweizer up to a ninth place finish. However, Kipyegon did appeal the disqualification and won. So, Schweizer is back in the 10th place position and Kipyegon gets her silver medal.

It is best finish Schweizer has ever had in her Olympic career, after finishing in 11th place in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. She even managed to improve on the time from her preliminary race in Paris by a little more than 14 seconds with a time of 14:45:57 in the final.

Schweizer's time at the Paris Olympics is not finished yet, though. She will race in the 10,000 meter on Friday, Aug. 9.
