Monday breaks the record for the hottest day ever on Earth

Climate scientists say the record for the hottest day globally has been broken for the second consecutive day and that the worldwide temperature could rise yet more this week. Preliminary data released Wednesday by Copernicus shows the global average temperature Monday was 17.15 degrees Celsius, which beats Sunday’s record by 0.06 degrees Celsius. The previous record was set a year earlier, and before then, the hottest day on record was in 2016, when average temperatures were at 16.8 degrees Celsius. The temperature rise in recent decades is in line with what climate scientists projected would happen if humans keep burning fossil fuels at an increasing rate.
