One man shot and found on Discovery Parkway early Sunday morning

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A man was shot early Sunday morning and found on Discovery Parkway in Columbia.

Officer Jenny Hopper, a spokesperson with the Columbia Police Department, said the department is investigating whether the shooting happened in Columbia or somewhere else. Hopper said they believe the shooting happened somewhere on Highway 63. Hopper referred questions about the shooting to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Lieutenant Neal Sedgwick with Columbia Police said that the department was dispatched for the shooting on Discovery Parkway at 1:30 a.m. and found one man with gunshot wounds in a car. Sedgwick said the victim was the passenger in the car and an ambulance took him to a local hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the car that the victim was in was on the scene and had not been detained.

Officers closed westbound Discovery Parkway between southbound Highway 63 and Ponderosa St.

ABC 17 saw at least five Columbia Police Department cars and a silver car at the scene. A crime scene van arrived at the scene around 3:40 a.m.

An officer with Holts Summit arrived around 3:45 a.m. Lt. Sedgwick told ABC 17 News that that agency was investigating a possible connection to a disturbance that happened in the Callaway County town that night.

Officers also located a wrecked car on Highway 63 near Broadway with evidence of gunshots to it shortly after they were dispatched, according to Sedgwick.

Sedgwick said another victim with a gunshot wound walked into Boone Hospital shortly after the department received the call, but are unsure if that victim is related to the shooting. Hopper said the department is working to see if the wrecked car and walking gunshot wound victim are connected.
