Weather Alert Day: Feels like the triple digits through Monday

This morning's update extends the Heat Advisory for few our southern most counties through Tuesday, as rain and clouds keep most of us cooler on Tuesday.

BLOG:

The ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Team has issued a Weather Alert Day for dangerous heat for the first half of the workweek. A Heat Advisory is in effect through Monday night across the entire state.

SETUP

High pressure out to our west is sending winds from the south/southwest into our region, increasing the heat and humidity over Mid-Missouri. Highs reach the upper 90s with dew points in the 70s. That combination will create dangerously hot conditions if you're exposed for a prolonged period of time.

IMPACTS

Each afternoon until Tuesday will run the risk of 105+ degree heat. Try to limit your time outdoors during the peak of the day; the heat index can already reach well above 90 degrees before noon.

It's a good idea to keep pets inside with plenty of water and avoid the hottest parts of the day for bathroom breaks.

Know the difference between heat exhaustion and heat stroke. A person with heat stroke will suffer from a throbbing headache, stop sweating, have dry, hot skin, and a body temperature above 103. Call 911 immediately if suffering from these symptoms.
