Columbia police are investigating deadly shooting on Rice Road

Columbia police confirmed Monday morning that one man died after being shot on Rice Road on Sunday night.

According to a press release from the Columbia Police Department, officers responded to the 4300 block of Rice Road around 10:20 p.m.

Police said officers found one man with "an apparent gunshot wound." That man was taken to a local hospital, where he died due to the injuries. No suspect information was included in the release.

ABC 17 News saw at least 10 Columbia Police Department vehicles and crime scene tape blocking off the intersection of Rice Road and Boyd Lane on Sunday.

The press release does not release the victim's name as police said they are still trying to contact the victim's next of kin.

An ABC 17 News reporter saw police investigating a home and vehicles in the area. At least three evidence markers were seen at the scene.

An officer at the scene told ABC 17 News that the department responded to a shots fired call in the area. He was unable to give further information.
