Police accuse woman of 16 crimes in Conley Road Walmart incident
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Columbia police identified the woman officers arrested Friday after shots were fired in the parking lot of the Walmart on Conley Road.
According to a press release Saturday, officers arrested Whitney Nevels-McKee, 35, of Columbia.
Police said they arrested Nevels-McKee on suspicion of multiple crimes including second-degree kidnapping, three counts of vehicle hijacking, two counts of second-degree assault, three counts of fourth-degree assault, first-degree terrorist threat, stealing a firearm, two counts of unlawful use of a weapon, felon in possession of a firearm, armed criminal action and misdemeanor stealing.
Online court records show prosecutors have not yet filed charges. According to online jail records, she was booked into the Boone County Jail just before 11:40 p.m. on Friday.
A Columbia Police Department spokesman told ABC 17 News at the scene that two people were initially detained but a man was let go after being interviewed.
Police responded to the store for shots fired around 5:20 p.m. Police said there were two crime victims, but no one was hurt.
A witness, Vincent Rogers, told ABC 17 News he saw a woman with a gun acting erratically in the parking lot. The woman tried to carjack a vehicle, firing shots inside it, he said.
Another witness, Doug Tallon, said he took cover behind a fire truck after hearing gunshots.
Several agencies were at the scene. At least five Columbia Police Department cruisers, fire trucks from Boone County and Columbia and Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers responded. The scene cleared around 7 p.m.
