Storms leave thousands without power Monday night

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Storms moved through parts of Mid-Missouri on Monday, knocking down trees and powerlines.

According to a statewide outage map, more than 2,000 electric cooperative members in Phelps County were without power as of 8:45 p.m. More than 380 members were also affected in Maries County and 98 members lost power in Gasconade County.

The ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Team tracked storms moving into Phelps County around 4:20 p.m., reaching Rolla near 5 p.m.

According to Three Rivers Electric Cooperative, the storms brought strong winds to Maries County after 5 p.m., causing downed trees and power lines. The cooperative said that it had several crews working to restore power, but did not know how long it would take.

Phelps County Emergency Management posted on Facebook that nine poles in a row snapped near Newburg. The agency also said a large tree fell down at the home of a deputy in Doolittle.

Power outages were also reported in Fulton. The city posted on Facebook that there were "scattered outages and downed trees." The post asked Fulton residents to report damage and outages by calling the power plant at 573-592-3180.

According to the ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Team, storms moved into the Fulton area around 6:30 p.m. A large tarp that was covering the water tower on the south side of the city was blown off as storms moved through.
