Jefferson City Schools to host opening session ahead of school year

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo (KMIZ)

The Jefferson City School District is hosting its opening session Friday at Capital City High School to kick off the school year for Jc Schools faculty and staff.

Friday's events are set to start at 9:30 a.m. and includes student performances from drumlines, pep-bands, and cheer and dance. There will also be speeches from JC schools Superintendent Bryan McGraw, the 2023 teacher of the year, and student speaker.

The theme this year is to be a champion. 

Today's celebration kicks off the first week of school for the school district.

Jefferson City School District says 8,000 students will return to learn Monday.

Monday is also the re-opening of Thorpe Gordon Stem Academy. The district's first-ever STEM school will re-open after being fully renovated this summer. A ribbon cutting will take place at 10:30 a.m. Monday.
