Strong winds and rain cause power outages and damage in Mexico Saturday morning

Around 3:30 am Saturday morning, the Mexico Public Safety Department found at least 25 locations in the area where tree limbs, utility lines are debris were blocking the roads.

There are no reports of injuries from the storm.

A press release from the department says that the department used equipment to remove parts of trees that had fallen in about 10 locations. The Missouri Department of Transportation also removed a part of a tree that fell in the 700 block of Muldrow.

Around 4:30 am, about 2,000 residents in the area were without power.

However, around 11 am it appeared that less than 100 people remained without power.

According to the press release, two utility poles fell in the 400 block of Mars Street. This led to Ameren having to cut electricity in the area so they could replace the live poles. A small fire on the roof was also put out by the department.

The department also reports that at least one house and vehicle were hit by tree limbs, and reminds residents to use caution while driving in the area.
