COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A plea deal could be accepted by Monday for a man accused of shooting and killing a man in Douglass Park in 2020.

Rickey Murry, 51, is charged with first-degree murder, armed criminal action and unlawful gun possession. He is being held at the Boone County Jail without bond. Murry appeared in court Friday by video from the jail.

A pretrial conference is set for 9 a.m. Monday and a plea could be accepted then, a Boone County assistant prosecutor said in court. A jury trial is set for 9 a.m. Tuesday, if a plea is not reached.

The defense is looking to delay the sentencing, citing Murry's blood pressure as a reason.

Murry is accused in the shooting that killed Corey Jordan in August 2020. Police were called to Douglass Park at the time for a report of shots fired.

Police previously said around 100 people were around the area, some applying pressure to Jordan's wounds. Jordan was taken to an area hospital, where he later died.

A witness allegedly told police at the time that Murry was "creeping around and hiding behind trees and vehicles" before getting into a confrontation with Jordan and shooting him, according to a probable cause statement.
