JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Democratic state Sen. Karla May is running for U.S. Senate in Missouri. May launched her campaign for Republican U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley’s seat Tuesday in St. Louis. May faces a Democratic primary next year against candidates including St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Wesley Bell. If elected, May or Bell would be among the first, if not the only, person of color elected to statewide office in Missouri. But Democrats face slim odds in the now Republican-dominated state. Marine veteran Lucas Kunce also is running for the Democratic nomination.
