Chandler Murphy becomes third Tiger taken in 2023 MLB Draft

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Former Mizzou pitcher Chandler Murphy became the third Tiger to be drafted in the 2023 MLB Draft on Tuesday. Murphy was taken in the 12th round with pick 363 by the Tampa Bay Rays.

Murphy spent one season at Mizzou finishing with a 4-5 record and a 5.47 ERA.

His best outing of the year came against NJIT where he allowed one run in seven innings pitched, not to mention recording a season-high eight strikeouts in the victory.

Murphy also had a good outing in SEC play against Tennessee. He gave up just three hits in six innings pitched and grabbed five K's.

Before his time at MU, Murphy spent three seasons at Arizona. As a senior out of high school, he posted a 3-1 record with a 0.58 ERA. He was selected by the Houston Astros in the 36th round of the 2019 MLB Draft, but decided to spend a few years at the collegiate level.
