6-year-old boy, man drown at Missouri lakes on Fourth of July

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A 6-year-old boy and a 22-year-old man both drowned on Tuesday evening, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

According to the incident report, the boy was not wearing a life jacket when he jumped onto a lily pad at the 65.9-mile mark of the main channel at Lick Creek Cove at the Lake of the Ozarks.

Troopers said the boy went underwater but did not resurface.

He was found unresponsive and flown by MU Air to Lake Regional Hospital where he died.

Troopers in Clay County also responded to a drowning Tuesday evening of a 22-year-old man at Little Platte Swim Beach at Smithville Lake.

The incident report states Carlos Antonio from St. Joseph was swimming when he walked off a ledge in the water and never resurfaced.

Antonio was not reported to be wearing a life jacket.
