Missouri’s State Treasurer to discuss process of safe deposit boxes

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

On Thursday morning, Missouri's State Treasurer plans to discuss the open and inventory process of safe deposit boxes.

In Missouri, there's a virtual lost and found people can visit for any unclaimed property.

How to access unclaimed property:

  • Search the treasurer database for unclaimed property
  • Put in first, and last name and city
  • A list of unclaimed properties from the database will be displayed
  • Sign up for email alerts to stay updated on new unclaimed property

The Treasurer's Office says it broke a record and was able to return $1.7 million in unclaimed property just three days after Vivek Malek was sworn into the position in January.

The office says $25.1 million has been reclaimed by over 85,000 accounts as of this week.

Thursday's event where staff will open safe deposit boxes is set to begin at 10 a.m. in the Truman Building in Jefferson City.

A sample of items already found in inventoried boxes will be on display during the event. The staff also plans to open the last safe deposit boxes in custody.
