Voluntary Action Center to help the community stay cool with its Summer Fan Program
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Starting Monday, May 1. the Voluntary Action Center is working to help keep the community cool ahead of summer temperatures with its annual Summer Fan Program. According to the CDC, 702 heat-related deaths occur each year.
The VAC Summer Fan Program is scheduled to run until Sept 1. The VAC said the fans are provided solely through a finical donation or by someone donating new or gently used fans to the organization for them to later distribute.
According to the Voluntary Action Center, anyone who is in need of a fan must have a residence in Boone County and meet all of the VAC's qualifications for general services.
Anyone who meets those qualifications can pick up their fan during walk-in hours on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, or call the center to make an appointment.
A $20 donation allow for the purchase of one fan from the local Lowe’s Home
Improvement store. If you are looking to make a fan donation, those can be donated at the VAC office on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
If you want to make a finical donation towards fan purchases, you can make one at VACMO. Org, or mail in your donation to the VAC office on Vandiver Drive.
If you have an electricity bill through either the City of Columbia or Boone Electric Cooperative and meet all of VAC's qualifications, you can also trade in your old or broken window a/c units starting Tuesday, May 2.
Those in need of a new unit should call the VAC and speak to a team member.
