Changes to Sunday services at Trinity Lutheran Church and School after fire Saturday morning

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Trinity Lutheran Church and School has made changes to services Sunday after a fire broke out Saturday morning.

The school said on its Facebook page service will take place in the lower church parking lot at 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

Those attending should bring a lawn chair.

There will be no access to the building, including restrooms.

Jefferson City and Cole County Fire Departments responded to a reported early morning fire at Trinity Lutheran School around 12:40 a.m. Saturday.

Fire personnel says the initial report was for a fire alarm, but fire personnel arrived to find heavy smoke inside the building, upgraded the call to a structure fire, and dispatched more units.

Fire officials said crews located the fire in a classroom and quickly brought it under control. The building sustained heavy fire damage in the room of origin with smoke damage extending to three levels of the building according to fire officials.

Fire crews say no one was in the building at the time of the incident.

The Missouri State Fire Marshall is investigating the cause of a fire.
