Homecoming weekend shooting suspect brought back to Boone County
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A suspect in a shooting on the University of Missouri's Homecoming weekend last year in Columbia was brought back to Boone County on Tuesday after his arrest in Georgia.
Three people were hurt in a shooting Oct. 21 on Hitt Street, including one who police say was an innocent bystander. He was walking with his parents downtown when he was hit in the shoulder, police said.
Donye Jackson, 20, was arrested in connection with a shooting that date near Cherry and Hitt streets, a Boone County Sheriff's Office spokesman said. He referred other questions to Columbia police, who are investigating the case.
Jackson was charged with three felonies including attempted first-degree assault. He was arrested in Atlanta on March 30, according to court records. He was booked into the Boone County Jail on Tuesday.
One of the shooting victims told investigators that he got into an argument with two men in the parking lot of the No Gas convenience store and the men began shooting, according to a probable cause statement. Casings from the scene matched a gun Jackson owned, police say.
Detectives conducted a “self-initiated subject call” on Dec. 13 and Jackson had the gun then, as well, the statement says. Jackson’s cellphone allegedly used the tower in the 1200 block of Paquin Street about 40 minutes before shots were fired. About three and a half minutes after shots were fired, his phone used a cellphone tower near North Providence Road and Business Loop 70 East, according to the statement.
