MoDOT to close Boone County Route 163 for bridge demolition

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Missouri Department of Transportation is planning to close Missouri Route 163 at Bonne Femme Creek Bridge on Monday to begin demolition on the old bridge. MoDOT put out a tweet warning drivers about the traffic impact.

According to MoDOT, the bridge was built in 1958. It's in poor condition, and has weight and speed restrictions for vehicles using the bridge.

The department plans to replace the bridge with a new structure that will bring it up to current standards and remove the restrictions.

All work is weather permitting, however, MoDOT plans to get the bridge project completed by Aug. 4, 2023 and the area will be closed for at least until then.

During the project, MoDOT says traffic will be directed around the closure on a signed detour over Route 163 (Providence Road), Route AC (Grindstone Parkway), and U.S. Route 63.

Modot Engineer Kirsten Munck told ABC 17 News that the bridge replacement bridge is one of three projects.

" We do have a bridge replacement in Northern Boone County on Route F that is over Coon Creek, sorry. Then we also have some rehabilitation work on route F in Northern Boone County over Perche and Blaze Creek," said Munck.

MoDOT also told ABC 17 News that the project will cost around $775,000 and is paid for by both federal and state funds.
