Man pleads ‘no contest’ for trying to throw woman off bridge

KMIZ

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — A 38-year-old Lawrence man pleaded no contest to attempted second-degree murder after he tried to throw a woman off a bridge into the Kansas River. In exchange for his plea on Wednesday, three felony counts of criminal threat against Adam Blake Amyx Jr. were dismissed. A group of women encountered Amyx yelling and cursing on the bridge in April 2022. One approached him, and he picked her up and tried to hurl her into the river. Prosecutors say the fall likely would have killed her. Amyx told the judge he has mental health problems. But he said he’s currently on medication and was confident he could make the plea decision.
