Columbia Planning and Zoning Commission approves additional land for a possible new hotel

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

On Thursday, Columbia's Planning and Zoning Commission held a public meeting to discuss expanding The Crosscreek Center Development area near Stadium and Highway 63.

According to city documents, developers are planning to build a new four-story hotel.  Developers had to request approval of an updated statement of intent to move the project forward.

Commission members approved the SOI with a 7-1 vote.

In the original statement of intent for the area, the document only allowed for 13.3 acres of land to be used for the development area with a list of specific uses.

Developers are asking to add an extra 1.2 acres along Cinnamon Hill Lane ,which are outlined in red striping below.

Katie Kane lives near the site and said she has reservations about the project.

"My main concerns were: increased traffic burden, type of hotel for that location, and the rather strange location itself," Kane said in an email. "I have not kept track, but it appears the Stadium/63 intersection already has plenty of wrecks."
