Liverpool fans to get refunds after Champions League chaos

By JAMES ROBSON

MANCHESTER, England (AP) — UEFA will refund Liverpool fans who bought tickets for last season’s Champions League final because of the chaos that occurred outside the stadium in Paris. The governing body of European soccer says a scheme has been set up to reimburse all 19,618 tickets purchased by Liverpool fans for the match against Real Madrid. There were crushes outside the Stade de France and innocent supporters were doused by pepper spray and tear gas. Refunds will also be paid out to Real Madrid supporters and neutral fans who meet certain criteria. An independent investigation published last month found UEFA mostly responsible for the security failures which “almost led to disaster.”
