LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Proposed initiatives may face a new hurdle to qualifying for the Arkansas ballot. The state Senate has approved a measure that more than triples the number of counties where signatures supporting ballot measures must be gathered. The bill now heads to the governor’s desk. Supporters say it would ensure more support across the state for getting measures on the ballot. Opponents say the effort is unconstitutional and comes after voters have rejected other restrictions on the state’s initiative process. Arkansas voters have approved initiatives in recent years legalizing medical marijuana and expanding casino gambling.
